This year’s charitable efforts was launched by a 15ft (size of a fully grown male Giraffe) coin tower that stood in the shopping centre for  two weeks which was the back drop for a sponsored virtual cycle with a total distance of 282km – the distance between the Alhambra and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Other activities included special guest appearances from Peppa Pig, SpongeBob Square Pants lookalikes and a Storm Trooper that were available for photo opportunities,

a football speed challenge with prizes for the top adult and top child.

Steph Higham, Alhambra Shopping Centre marketing manager said: “We were delighted with the turnout at this year’s One Great Day event. It’s fantastic to see Barnsley residents all backing two worthy charities.

“The money raised will truly change the lives of families with special care babies and allow the nursing staff to continue offering life changing medical care.”
