Brief

The Alhambra Shopping Centre is a dual level centre in Barnsley with over 40 stores, including Primark, Next, Wilko, Thomas Cook and more.

We manage a variety of marketing avenues for the shopping centre including social media and design.

As part of the social media management, we decided to run a Valentine’s Day competition on Facebook, to encourage likes and shares and in return build the Alhambra’s social media presence and following.

Solution

We decided to give away a weekend break for two – perfect for Valentine’s Day, and run the competition for two weeks, from the 1st Feb up to the 14th. This gave followers more time to enter and create a buzz around the campaign.

The design team created artwork for the competition that complied with Facebook’s advertising rules as the post was to be promoted to reach a wider, targeted audience.

Outcome

The competition was a huge success with almost 1,000 people entering via likes, shares and comments. Overall the competition reached 68,731 people (organic and paid), gained 913 reactions, 927 shares and 3,988 post clicks.

To fairly pick a winner, we used a website called WooBox to select one at random.

Due to the competition, the Alhambra’s followers on Facebook increased by 441 new likes in just two weeks. Their Facebook page now stands at 15,505 likes (as of February 2017).
